ValueNotes Database, a foremost provider of business intelligence and research in India, works with clients globally and has a considerable knowledge and understanding of international markets.

According to research carried out by the company it calculates that offshored patent services to India in 2007 brought in revenues amounting to $46 million.
It also estimates that the revenue will grow a further 35% in the next five years and will be about $206 million.

With multi-service vendors constituting 86% of India’s patent services industry, about 50 of the largest providers employ around 1,550 professionals.
As a result of their research and analysis the five top vendors for patent services determined by Value Notes are Evalueserve, Pangea3, CPA Global, Lexadigm and Clairvolex.

There are three main types of players in this field- Captives, Third-party multi-service providers and Third-party pure play patent service providers, with the more prominent vendors focusing on high value services, the lesser established ones concentrate on volume rather than value.
Arun Jethmalani, CEO, ValueNotes, says “The established vendors with exposure to high-value services will look to complete their array of offerings to attract more business from their existing clients. They will look to leverage end-to-end solutions. ”

It has been suggested that the more prominent and better recognized companies take over the smaller ones in order to expand their patent services outsourcing dealings. This would be advantageous with regard to cross-selling services, stronger cash flows and greater scale benefits.

Principal Analyst - Legal Services, ValueNotes, Neeraja Kandala, says, “Going forward, we believe that the pure play players will either look to diversify across the legal domain or will be forced to sell to larger competitors or US companies looking for a foothold in India.”
