In its recent article, GCs Embrace Outsourced Work on the Law.com network many of the most recent developments with regard to outsourcing and offshoring legal work are talked about.
“Why pay big-firm associates $200 an hour to do document review when you can ship it out to India for $25 an hour?” asks attorney Scott Rickman at Del Monte Foods who finds that sky high rates and the ever escalating demands of e-discovery have forced the San Francisco firm to contemplate outsourcing the company’s legal work.
The article goes on to name big companies like Microsoft Corp. and Cisco Systems Inc that have already started doing so.
It reports the estimated value of legal work being offshored at present to be in the vicinity of $80 million but states that researchers have forecast an escalation to much larger $4 billion worth heading to India by 2015,
The article further talks about the up and coming Indian LPO companies such as Pangea3, and Office Tiger and reveals why private law firm partners may not look at offshoring too benignly but list the possible risks instead.
It goes on to explain how some subjects may be better outsourced than others and how and when it is really worth looking into. It also reveals the reservations some may have with regard to offshoring.
All in all, an interesting and enlightening article.
