Think of IT in India and most people immediately think of Bangalore, the ‘Silicon City’.
But other cities in South India, Chennai and Hyderabad, to name two of them, are also building reputations as IT destinations.
Now there is a new star on the horizon- Mysore, The City of Palaces, just 130 kilometers south of Bangalore.
Well known for its other tourist attractions such as its Chamundi Hills and Brindavan Gardens, it is now attracting visitors of a different ilk, the ‘information technology’ type. Major IT companies like Infosys, Wipro, Microsoft and Dell are already well set in the city of Mysore. It is estimated that at present there are over 30 major IT companies that have set up office in the city of Mysore.
Now it is the turn of the KPOs, most noticeable among them SDD Global and Mindcrest.
Bangalore has had its day. It’s salubrious climate and pleasant surroundings are what attracted foreign investors to it. Today, economic progress has taken its toll. High prices, even higher real estate prices, overcrowding and traffic jams have taken the sheen off it.
Mysore, on the other hand, still holds on to its old world charm. Also blessed with a pleasant climate and as yet untouched natural beauty its pollution levels are said to be far lower than that of Bangalore’s.
Known to be a university town, there is a vast pool of untapped educated talent here and with its relatively lower prices, excellent infrastructure and breathing space, Mysore is all set to be the next KPO Mecca.
